D'Lato Bama Chows

Welcome to D'lato Bama Chows.  I  am Debra A. Pilato and have owned Chow Chows for over  20 years and  have been showing and breeding for about 15 years.  I have finished multiple breeder/owner handled champions and  several I purchased from other kennels and owner handled to championship.   Chow Chows are my life.  You can't just own one!   The breed embraces your heart and doesn't let go.  I began my journey with a pet chow and became so amazed with her I had to learn more.  I began researching Chows and bought books and read everything I could get my hands on.  I soon found out there was such a thing as a "standard".  When books could not provide any more information I continued my search with the national club, CCCI.  I was provided some of the most helpful information yet.  I was also provided breeders names and contacts in my area.  This began a wonderful journey of visitations and learning.  I met so many breeders that were anxious to assist and educate me.  They kept saying you need to show.  Just go to a show!!!   I finally attended my first dog show.  That was it, I was hooked.  That was 15 years ago and I still love every minute of it.

I have belonged to the CCC, Inc. for over ten years and also the Chow Chow Fanciers of Atlanta for about five years.  I served as President of the CCFA for two terms and during that time the CCFA hosted a National Speciality.   That was an experience of a lifetime.

I have strived to create a limited breeding program that will produce good temperament and sound dogs for many generations to come.  I believe the Chow Chow breed is one of great dignity which should be bred true to standard for the preservation of the breed and I sincerely hope I have accomplished this.
